Midas

Minibus Driver Awareness Scheme (Midas) is designed to make appropriate training, assessment and accreditation available  to minibus drivers from voluntary organisations, local authorities, schools and colleges.
This is a programme developed to enhance the driving and passenger awareness skills of the many thousand of individuals who drive minibuses in the course of their work or as volunteers. Whilst minibuses are a relatively safe form of passenger transport, everyone agrees that the task of minibus driving requires skills over and above those required for driving a car.

Drivers who successfully complete the MIDAS assessment and training programme will receive a nationally recognised certificate valid for 4 years, as well as the option of purchasing the comprehensive "Minibus Driver's Handbook".

Midas Accessible

This programme covers the standard Midas training with additional training in wheelchair accessible minibuses, the equipment needed, how to load and unload and clamp wheelchairs and legal requirements.

Midas MPV / Car

The Midas MPV/Car certifivate is an ideal advanced drivers certificate for any car or MPV driver who needs to exercise a high duty of care to their passengers. The course incorporates a short theory section, defensive driving teqhniques to a high standard, vehicle health and safety issues and passenger comfort and safety. The course can be tailored specifically for drivers of MPV's or cars that have been adapted for disabled people and include a passenger lift or ramp to accommodate wheelchair users.

PATS

Passenger Assistant Training Scheme (PATS) is for anyone who has care or supervision of passengers when travelling by road. PATS has been developed out of Midas and is for those people who undertake the role of passenger assistant, escorts, helpers, care assistants etc, and is relevant for minicabs, minibuses and large buses. This can also apply to drivers who may have to provide assistance.  This is a modular training programme which is delivered in separate sections and can be again tailored to individual requirements.

  •          Module A The role of passenger assistants
  •          Module B Assisting passengers with disabilities
  •          Module C 1 Supervising children and young people with special needs
  •          Module C 2 Working with adults

  •          Not all modules are required depending on individual needs

Minibus Training D1 We provide practical training for the DSA D1 Bus Licence test in your own vehicle.

If you have passed your driving test after 1st January 1997, you no longer have the entitlement  to drive a minibus on your driving licence. A minibus is a small bus comprising of 9-16 passenger seats + 1 driver or over 3.5 tonnes.

If you have passed your test before the 1st January 1997 you have the entitlement on your licence to drive a minibus BUT might have the restriction NOT FOR HIRE OR REWARD so if you are driving a minibus as part of a job where you get paid you will have to take the test (employers please refer to Corporate Manslaughter Act 2007). If you are a volunteer and don’t get paid you are ok, but we recommend that you undertake the MiDAS training course.
